show folders sidebar by default

Win XP by default has that really useless side bar in the file explorer window that gives you options like publish files to the web or burn to cd but really who thought that these were actions that the user was doing so often that they needed to take up valuable screen real estate all the time instead of being pushed to some menu or even a button on the tool bar. When what we really need to see there is the explorer/folders bar all the time, for some reason on some xp installs if you display the folders side bar when you re open the folder it will have disapeared again even if you modify the folder view settings to preserve the view options. If this has been bothering you the fix is detailed here, note make sure you are modifying the settings of (NONE) Folder and not (NONE) File Fiolder
